A quickstart package is a complete Joomla website: Joomla itself, the template, its extensions and the demo content. Use it on an empty folder or domain to get a site that looks like the demo. It is restored with Akeeba Kickstart and Akeeba’s restoration script in the browser (the package holds installer.php and a .jpa archive made with Akeeba Backup; older packages used kickstart.php).
The quickstart package comes with the Pro editions (Pro Standard and Pro Unlimited). The Free edition is the template package only.
A quickstart replaces whatever is in the folder you install it into. Never run it over a site you want to keep: use a new folder, subdomain or domain.
Before you start
- An empty folder on your hosting (or a local server such as XAMPP).
- An empty MySQL or MariaDB database, with its name, user and password (your hosting control panel creates them).
- The quickstart .zip from the template’s Pro download.
Install
- Unzip the quickstart .zip on your computer: it holds
installer.phpand a.jpaarchive (an Akeeba Backup of the demo site). - Upload both files to the empty folder on your hosting.
- Open
https://yoursite.com/installer.phpin a browser (Akeeba Kickstart) and let it extract the archive. - The restoration script opens next (
https://yoursite.com/installation/): enter the database details, then the site name, email and your administrator account. - When it is done, remove the installation folder and
installer.phpas it tells you (Kickstart’s clean-up button does both). - Sign in at
yoursite.com/administratorwith the account you created.
Older packages hold kickstart.php instead of installer.php: open that file in the same way.
After the install
- Replace the demo texts, pictures, phone numbers and addresses with your own.
- Check the contact form: it is a Convert Forms Free form, so set the email address it is sent to (Contact page).
- In System → Global Configuration check the site name, email settings and SEO settings.
Moving it later
Built the site on your computer or a test folder first? Move it with a backup extension such as Akeeba Backup (free): back up, upload the backup and its installer to the new host, and restore it.
